Fillings

A tooth restoration is most commonly called a "filling. A filling is needed when decay erodes through the enamel and into the second layer of the tooth.  Decay is NOT reversible once bacteria passes through the enamel. The condition will only worsen. To place a filling, the patient is usually numb and the affected portion of the tooth must be removed. The filling replaces the affected tooth structure.
