Root Canals

a) Root canals are needed when a post needs to be placed to anchor the crown, or decay is deep within the tooth affecting the health of the nerve.
b) A tooth with bacteria inside the canal may exhibit one or more of the following:

i) Pain

ii) Sensitivity to hot and cold

iii) Missing tooth structure as the tooth has broken

iv) Discoloration (usually darker than the neighboring teeth). These teeth are often referred to as "dead.

c) Root canal treatment requires that the contents of the tooth be removed and replaced by a "root filling. A temporary filling is placed once the root canal is completed.
d) Our clinic will determine on a case-by-case basis if a specialist would be more effective in completing any needed root canal therapy.
